Update from the Chapter Advisors

Parents,

We enjoyed getting to meet you all on Bid Day!  For those we were unable

to meet, we'll take a moment to introduce ourselves.  We are the

co-chapter advisors for the OSU chapter of Alpha Chi Omega, also known as

the Gamma Epsilon chapter of AXO.  We are both alumna of Gamma Epsilon

and both work for OSU, Erin in Stillwater and Keila at the OKC campus.

Our job as advisors is to help guide and direct programming at the

chapter, assist with problems or issues, and mentor the women of the

chapter.  We are volunteers and our goal is to help the women grow as

students and women through their AXO experience.

First we'd like to thank the Parents Club for all the help this year at

Recruitment and Dad's Day.   We so appreciate your support and love

getting the chance to meet you.

A few important things to mention:

--first, we have exciting news regarding parking.  If your daughter lives

in the chapter house, you may have heard that parking can be difficult.

A big thanks to Mom Jane and Claire, the House Corporation President, for

working with Delta Tau Delta to lease additional parking spaces from them

for our women.  These spaces are conveniently located near our house

(just as close as our far back lot spots) and House Corp has agreed to

fund the lease of these spaces.  We now have enough spaces for every

woman to be assigned a specific parking space--the end of circling the

lot looking for an open space or stalking a sister who is leaving for

Walmart!

--Homecoming, Freshman Follies, Initiation and many other activities are

coming up this fall.  Fall can often seem overwhelming--especially to our

new members.  The fall semester of a new member's freshman year is often

the busiest, most overwhelming semester of their membership in a

sorority.  The goal of all the activity is to give her many opportunities

to interact with older members and get her comfortable coming over to the

chapter house.  If your daughter is feeling overwhelmed, we can relate.

I (Keila) remember calling my mom my freshman year in the fall in a panic

and telling her that I wasn't sure I had time to do all this--maybe I

should quit.  Fortunately, she put me in touch with a friend who assured

me that after the first semester and initiation were over, things would

greatly slow down.  And it did!  If your daughter calls you overwhelmed,

please encourage her to reach out to Erica, the new member educator, or

one of us and we will be happy to help her in any way we can!

Finally, what would you like to know from us?  What questions do you

have?  Feel free to contact us directly or send your questions to the

Parent's Club and we will answer them.  Chances are, if you have a

question, another parent probably has the same one!

See you soon!

Keila and Erin

Recruitment Help needed for 2013

Dear AXO Parents,
Recruitment is right around the corner and many of the girls are already spending countless hours planning to make this year the most successful one yet.  But as always, they need our support! The chapter is currently in need of parent volunteers and donations for Formal Recruitment.      Last year, I had the opportunity to assist behind the scenes during several of the recruitment events.  It was a fantastic opportunity to get to meet other parents, get to know Mom Jane and Kathy better, and have a greater appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication our daughters put into this very important event.
This year, volunteers are needed for AM, PM, and full day shifts on the following dates:

Monday, August 5 (Open House Round Day 1) 9:30-5:45

Tuesday, August 6 (Open House Round Day 2) 9:30 -5:45
Wednesday, August 7 (Philanthropy Round)  8:30 – 7:40
  Thursday, August 8 (Skit Round) 9:15 – 7:30
  Friday, August 9 (Preference Round)  10:30 – 5:40
Saturday August 10 (BID DAY!!!!!) 10-2

In addition to volunteers, the chapter is looking for donations.  Currently, they need cases of mini Ozarka water, 2 liter bottles of ginger ale,   10 packages of colorful thick markers, 40 half size sheets of white poster board, ANY SNACKS, plain red napkins, and $5 gift cards (Starbucks, Fuzzys, WalMart, or any place in Stillwater) for prizes to use during the week.
If you are able to help in any way, please contact me at my personal email liz.jeter@yahoo.com, the new AXO Parents Club email at AXOparentsokstate@gmail.com , or on my cell phone at 918-760-5775.
The girls have also invited all families to attend their skit preview!!!  If you have the opportunity, please plan on attending on Saturday, August at 3:00.  They are really looking forward to a large turnout!
It’s also that time to renew your AXO Parent’s Club membership. The new board has listened to everyone’s feedback and worked closely with Nationals over the last several months.  Per nationals, our club is a completely independent organization tasked with supporting the Chapter and their needs.   As a result of the challenges we faced in the spring, we have made several changes this year to how the club is run.  To begin with, we established an official officer board, created bylaws, and put several financial protocols in place.   We are looking forward to sharing more details in the fall, both at Bid Day and during our first ever club meeting before Dad’s Day!   You can always contact me for more details, or the other officers (Linda Davis, Vice President, Marianne Holmes, Treasurer, or Lisa Berger, Secretary).
I would like to encourage everyone to join the AXO Parent’s Club, as 100% of your membership dues go directly into fun activities for our daughters.  The annual membership fee is still $50.00 per family, and we will make every effort to keep you updated as to how that money is being spent.   We are already planning a Sundae Party during Spirit Week, providing donations for recruitment, food for finals, a Christmas decorating party, and asking the chapter to provide a “wish list” each semester to make sure we are supporting the CHAPTER and their needs in the best way possible.   We still plan on doing fundraising through Parent’s Club t-shirts, Greek Spirit wear, Mom’s day Auction, and new and exciting ideas inspired by other AXO Parent’s Club.  Additionally, we are committed to communicating to all active Parent’s Club members so we have created a blog.  We will have updates from all of our new officers, quarterly financial information, dates of upcoming events at the house AND parent’s club meetings, club bylaws, and volunteer opportunities.   We will be posting lots of pictures on both the blog and the AlphaChi Omega Parents Club Facebook page of events the Parents Club will be hosting.   Chapter advisors will also be posting updates on our blog to help keep parents better informed and bridge the gap with communication issues that have arisen in the past.  Please take a moment to check out the blog and subscribe at:   AXOparentsokstate.blogspot.com and don’t forget to friend us on FaceBook (AlphaChi Omega Parents)!
I have enclosed a membership form for the parents club.  We hope to have lots of moms AND dads volunteer throughout the year, so make sure sign up to help and list those special talents.  You can return on Bid Day or via mail to AXO Parents Club.  c/o Marianne Holmes,  9814 E 96th Place, Tulsa, OK 74133.  PLEASE MAKE ALL CHECKS PAYABLE TO AXO Parents Club.
All of us on the board welcome your feedback.  We know we ended the year on a bumpy note and each one of us would be glad to address any concerns you have.  Again, please feel free to email the Parent’s Club or contact me or other officers directly with question, concerns, or ideas to help make this year great!
I look forward to seeing you all in August!

Liz Jeter
AXO Parent’s Club President
